OCTOBER 2022

Note from the Chair
Jeff Stukenborg
The 2022 RIC-RIT World Remanufacturing Conference was a resounding success! The feedback that we have received is that everyone was so happy to be in-person again and to have the chance to network with their peers after going two years without. We also had great feedback about our presentations and panel sessions, with the DEI Conversation & Interactive Session and the Remanufacturing the EV panels being clear favorites. We are already hard at work planning next year’s event and can’t wait to share more details with you soon!

We have been working on establishing several new committees to give our members more opportunities to participate. We encourage members to look at all of our committee offerings and pick one that you or a colleague could serve on. Our council is member-driven and the more involved you are, the more impact you can have on the activities of the organization.

Our next R&D Webinar will be held next week, looking at the Consumer Products sector of the remanufacturing industry. We hope that this series of webinars will help everyone have a better understanding of other sectors - their similarities and differences,  and we hope that you might walk away with some fresh ideas to tackle challenges in your own sector. See below for all the details.

Our Trade & Policy Committee recently reviewed the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ definition of remanufacturing and noted that it did not align with our American National Standard definition of remanufacturing. We reached out to ATF in an effort to help them understand the process of remanufacturing and how it would apply to firearms.

RIC COMMITTEE OFFERINGS
We always encourage new members to get involved in a committee. It is the best way to get to know other members of RIC and provides an opportunity to steer the direction of the council. We have made an effort this year to add more opportunities for involvement by creating three new committees: Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Finance, and Next Generation of Reman Leaders.

All employees of member companies are eligible to participate in as many committees as they would like. We encourage all members to take a look at the updated committee information and share with your team. Click the button below to see a description of each committee as well as its current members. If you are logged in to the Member Portal, you'll be able to see past meeting minutes as well. If you do not have access to the Member Portal, you can request access here.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE NEWS BRIEF
Next week the R&D Committee will host the second webinar in a series that will highlight each sector of the industry. This webinar will focus on the Consumer Products sector.

This series will continue over the coming months, where you can expect to hear an overview of the sector, their reman processes, and their challenges, as well as their successes and their cutting edge technology. If you are interested in presenting about your sector, please get in touch.
TRADE & POLICY COMMITTEE NEWS BRIEF
It was recently brought to the RIC Trade & Policy Committee’s attention that the definition of remanufacturing published on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) website does not align with the American National Standard’s definition of remanufacturing.

The Trade & Policy Committee discussed concerns about this definition, including the requirement that a different firearm is produced from the process and the consideration that cerakoting (i.e. ceramic coating) constitutes remanufacturing.

See the full ATF definition and read RIC's outreach letter here.
