Ozarks Technical Community College Opens
SRC Diesel Remanufacturing Lab for Reman Curriculum
SRC Diesel Remanufacturing Lab
On October 22, 2019, Ozarks Technical Community College and Springfield Remanufacturing Corp (SRC) opened the college’s new SRC Diesel Remanufacturing Lab. The lab will support new remanufacturing curriculum offered by the college.

The new remanufacturing curriculum was established in conjunction with local remanufacturing companies, SRC Holdings Corp., CNH Industrial Reman, and John Deere Reman. These companies collectively approached OTC with a request that the college address the field’s growing workforce needs.

In an interview with Gabriel McLaughlin, Department Chair-Transportation Technology, Ozarks Technical Community College, we learned more about the new lab and reman curriculum.

Q. What types of certificates/degrees will be offered?
A. Two options are available: a certificate in remanufacturing and an Associate Degree in Remanufacturing. The Certificate in Remanufacturing will take nine months to one year to complete and is comprised of diesel, industrial systems, and precision machining courses. The Associate Degree in Remanufacturing will take two years to complete and is comprised of diesel, industrial systems, and precision machining courses, plus general education courses (English, math, science, etc.).

Q. How has the local reman industry been involved in shaping the curriculum, faculty, and lab for the program?
A. Curriculum. Our local industry drove the curriculum process. Industry professionals identified several different needs. Industry professionals identified courses currently offered at OTC that could meet the needs of remanufacturing. For example, our remanufacturing industry is focused on heavy-duty diesel engine remanufacturing. As a result, our remanufacturing program has several diesel engine diagnosis and repair courses. What was not already currently being taught was added to the new “Principles of Remanufacturing” course.

Faculty. Local industry shared our faculty needs with their employees and suggested that they get involved. The instructor for our “Principles of Remanufacturing" course is a current industry professional.

Reman Lab. We worked directly with the local industry to identify the necessary equipment for the lab and to determine the layout.

What's most important is that your event exposes more people to the industry and shows them the benefits of remanufacturing.

There are a variety of resources available at to plan your event. These resources include a Host Media Guide. The guide provides useful instructions and tools to promote your Reman Day event through media outlets like newspapers, magazines, radio/TV broadcasting, and websites.

The Host Media Guide includes samples of the following:

  • Press release
  • Letter to the editor
  • Media advisory
