ARE YOU UP FOR THE RE-WORDS CHALLENGE?
Value Retention Processes Graphic
Like any industry, sustainable manufacturing has its jargon. In an attempt to dispell some of the confusion around this jargon, the RIC Trade & Policy Committee has researched and documented the various ways re-words are used, from government documents to website articles.

Attendees at the 2019 World Remanufacturing Conference took a closer look at the definitions and applications for these terms. The session began with a quiz containing approximately 20 definitions needing to be matched to the following: Recondition, Overhaul, Refurbish, Repair, and Reuse. Attendees broke into groups and worked together to complete the quiz. John Disharoon, Director of Market Access, Caterpillar led the discussion and revealed to the group the source and answer for each definition.

DESIGN FOR REMAN PROJECT UNDERWAY
Design for Reman Question
The Remanufacturing Industries Council has partnered with Caterpillar and the Rochester Institute of Technology on a Design for Remanufacturing Project through the REMADE Institute. REMADE Institute enables early-stage applied research and development of technologies that could dramatically reduce the embodied energy and carbon emissions associated with industrial-scale materials production and processing.

The goal of the project is to develop a set of remanufacturing design rules that can then be adopted across industry sectors and integrated into various engineering tools and CAD platforms. The first step in this process is to collect expert knowledge from the remanufacturing industry about the specific steps, features, guidance, or decisions designers should make to intentionally design for remanufacturing. RIC Members can expect to receive a questionnaire this week to help capture this important information.
REMAN DAY IS APRIL 9, 2020
With the new year approaching, be sure to include Reman Day in your 2020 planning. Registration is now open at RemanDay.org. Register your event today to show your support. Each year a new proclamation needs to be submitted to your state and/or local government. Once you register, you have access to the 2020 proclamation template as well as many other helpful planning tips and resources.
